Church Youth Comedy

Youth Sunday Drama: When the Holy Ghost Collides With the Sound System

Nigerian church youth departments have a special relationship with chaos. Put twenty energetic young people in charge of a Sunday service and something WILL go wrong. The question is only what and when. This skit answers both questions simultaneously.

πŸ‘₯ CHARACTERS
  • Brother Seun (Youth Pastor) β€” 30. Prepared for everything. God has not prepared him for today.
  • Sister Funke (Praise Team Lead) β€” Excellent singer who makes every song a 15-minute epic production.
  • Deacon Emeka (Sound Engineer) β€” His job is the sound board. He is on Instagram.
  • Michael (PowerPoint Operator) β€” New to the role. Very new. Dangerously new.
  • Chioma (Announcements) β€” Prepared an 8-minute announcement for a 1-minute slot.
  • Pastor Adewale β€” Senior Pastor. Watching from the front row. Mostly smiling. Slightly afraid.
🏠 SETTING

The main auditorium of Redemption Chapel, Sunday morning. Bright lights. Congregation in pews. The youth have decorated with banners that spell “YOUTH SUNDAY” β€” except the last “Y” is upside down. Nobody has noticed yet.

🎬 FULL SCRIPT
Service is about to start. Brother Seun huddles with the team backstage.
BROTHER SEUNOkay! We have this. We have rehearsed. We know the plan. Michael β€” what slide goes up first?
MICHAELWelcome to Youth Sunday.
BROTHER SEUNGood. Funke β€” first song?
SISTER FUNKEI Will Sing of Your Love Forever. Extended version.
BROTHER SEUNHow long is extended?
SISTER FUNKEGod will tell us when to stop.
BROTHER SEUNI need a specific time, Funkeβ€”
SISTER FUNKEI do not put God in a box, Brother Seun.
Service begins. Michael puts up the wrong slide: “WELCOME TO WEDDING CEREMONY.” The congregation murmurs.
BROTHER SEUN(through gritted smile) Michael. Wrong slide.
MICHAEL(panicking, typing) Sorry! Sorry!
Next slide: “RETIREMENT PARTY.” More murmuring.
BROTHER SEUNMichael.
MICHAELI cannot find the file! There are too many folders!
PASTOR ADEWALE(from front row, pleasantly) Is this intentional? A creative choice?
BROTHER SEUNWe are FINE Pastor. Completely fine. Michaelβ€”
Correct slide appears. Youth Sunday. The Y is still upside down. Service continues.
Praise and Worship. Sister Funke leads. Beautiful voice. They are ten minutes in.
BROTHER SEUN(whispering from the side) Funke. Second verse. Move to second verse.
SISTER FUNKE(ignoring him, eyes closed, ascending spiritually) I feel something. We cannot stop.
BROTHER SEUNFunkeβ€”
SISTER FUNKESHUUUUT! The spirit is moving!
Fifteen minutes into praise worship. The congregation is engaged but Brother Seun’s schedule is in ruins. He looks at Deacon Emeka.
BROTHER SEUNEmeka! Emeka! Can you hear me?
Deacon Emeka has his headphones on. He is on Instagram. He does not hear anything.
BROTHER SEUNEMEKA!!!
Emeka looks up startled, hits the sound board. Microphone feedback SCREAMS through the auditorium. Everyone grabs their ears.
CONGREGATIONEYYYY!
DEACON EMEKASorry! Sorry! Sorry! God forgive me!
Finally, announcements. Chioma steps to the mic, paper in both hands.
CHIOMAThank you and God bless you. So the first announcement is that our monthly vigil which was scheduled for the first Friday of next month has been moved to the second Friday, not the third Friday as previously announced in October β€” though the October announcement was wrong because the date was different β€” and this has been confirmed by the assistant to the executive secretary of the women’s fellowship whose husband deacon Fatai β€” you all know Deacon Fatai β€” confirmed by WhatsApp that the venue is the main auditorium and not the annex, the annex being booked for a different program which I will announce nowβ€”
BROTHER SEUN(cutting in gently) Sister Chioma.
CHIOMAI have six more pointsβ€”
BROTHER SEUNOne more. One.
CHIOMA(folding eight pages carefully) The choir is selling kerosene.
A pause.
BROTHER SEUNWhy.
CHIOMAFundraiser.
PASTOR ADEWALE(standing, clapping, smiling) You know what? This is the best youth Sunday we have had. Unpredictable. Authentic. The Lord is in this place. Let us pray.
Everyone stands. Funke begins a spontaneous song. Michael puts up the wrong slide again (“HAPPY BIRTHDAY”). Emeka goes back to Instagram. Brother Seun closes his eyes and thanks God it is almost over.
🎭 ACTING TIPS
  • Brother Seun’s journey must be visible on his face at all times β€” hope, panic, suppressed horror, professional resilience, and then finally surrender. The audience must feel every stage.
  • Sister Funke’s spiritual ascent should be glorious β€” she genuinely believes she is doing the right thing.
  • Chioma’s announcement speech must be delivered at breakneck speed without pausing for breath. She has prepared this and she will deliver it.
  • Pastor Adewale’s cheerful acceptance of everything is the comedic anchor β€” his serenity in the face of chaos is perfect.
πŸ“· CAMERA IDEAS
  • Cut to the wrong PowerPoint slides with dramatic pause on each one. Let the audience read and react.
  • Emeka on his phone: shoot over his shoulder so the audience can see his Instagram feed.
  • During Chioma’s announcement, cut frequently to Brother Seun’s face β€” each cut shows him aging.
  • Wide shot at the very end: everyone in their chaos, Pastor smiling in front. Hold it.
πŸ”Š SUGGESTED SOUND EFFECTS
  • Microphone feedback screech β€” used at peak volume for the Emeka moment
  • Church choir warm-up sounds in background
  • Praise and worship music (keep it real Nigerian gospel)
  • Notification sound for Emeka’s Instagram
πŸ“± TIKTOK CAPTION IDEAS
  • Nigerian church youth Sunday is NEVER going as planned 😭β›ͺ #ChurchComedy #NaijaChurch”
  • “The sound engineer was on Instagram and shook the ENTIRE auditorium πŸ˜‚ #ChurchSkit”
  • “Chioma had EIGHT pages of announcements. EIGHT. 😩😩 #NigerianChurch #Relatable”
πŸ”„ ALTERNATIVE ENDING

Senior Pastor Adewale, moved by the Spirit and by chaos, stands up and delivers the best sermon of his career β€” fully improvised. The youth watch, speechless. Brother Seun’s planned program lies unused in his hand. God had a different plan. It was better.
